Happy Holidays and New Recipe: Raw Vegan Chocolate Hazelnut Truffles

It's that time again. Just a couple of days left before Christmas, and still so many things to do, errands to run, gifts to wrap, etc. If you are one of those people who just don't want to spend hours making an elaborate dessert for your Holiday dinner or just need a healthy snack that will keep you powered and energized during the Holiday rush, this recipe is for you.

These incredibly rich chocolate truffles are great as a dessert or as a snack. I used dates and some stevia to sweeten it, but it is not too sweet. Achieving the right balance between sweetness and bitterness of raw cacao is a key here. Of course, feel free to play with it and adjust it to your taste, but this recipe is a great starting point. And it is so quick and easy to make, anyone can do it.

I used raw organic cacao powder for this recipe because of its amazing health benefits. Raw cacao has over 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries, is the highest plant-based source of iron, full of magnesium for a healthy heart and brain, has more calcium than cow's milk, and is a natural mood elevator and anti-depressant (from the article Cacao: 5 Little Known Benefits of this Amazonian Superfood.). It is also full of proteins and healthy fats from a combination of walnuts, hazelnuts and hemp seeds.

So feel free to enjoy your chocolate fix and feel good about it. One thing to be aware though is that cacao contains caffeine, so if you are sensitive to it, avoid this dessert in the afternoon.

Happy cooking and Happy Holidays!
